I hear frequently from readers of the Strongbow Saga series wanting to know when the next installment of Halfdan’s story will come out. Those who discovered the story back when it was originally published by HarperCollins have been waiting especially long.
The continuation of the series was delayed for a number of years due to problems with the original publisher. I’ve discussed them in earlier posts on this site, so will not rehash them again.
And readers who have followed my posts here will be aware that this year has brought big changes in my personal life: I moved from Houston, Texas to Oregon, where my wife Jeanette and I have settled on a small farm, and are beginning a new life. The move and change have been very time consuming, and have temporarily further delayed my progress on book 4.
But I am back at work now, and Halfdan is back. The first chapter of book 4 is now posted on the “Free Previews” section of this website. It gives a first look at the new book, and will perhaps answer some questions–and no doubt raise others–about what will happen next.
Enjoy!
Hello I want to thank you for such a great series. I just turned 14 Tuesday and have a very high reading level and I enjoy this series very much. Scandinavian culture has some very different vocabulary and word meanings etc.. and your books are informative, well thought out, and very gripping I feel as if I am right there with halfdan. Good luck and hope to see more books
A loving fan
Thanks, Bo, and Happy Birthday!
Hey,
Been a fan of the strongbow saga since they got published, and i recommend them to everyone i know. Really excited about the upcoming book(s), and i enjoy the story very much. Especially since it’s a huge hobby of mine; I live in Norway, I make longbows, and i’m a member of the viking reenactment community here in Norway (experimental archeology). If you ever travel to scandinavia, you should stop by one of the many viking markets, I’m sure you would enjoy it very much! Just want to say keep up the good writing,
Big salute from a norwegian fan,
Tom
Hello Tom,
Thanks very much for writing, and for recommending the series to others.
The next time I travel overseas–hopefully next year sometime–it will be for a research trip to Ireland, but I do hope to someday make a long visit to Scandinavia. What are some of the Viking markets you would recommend?
i love these books and read them all a few years ago and i got my dad into them as well. i just happened to come across an old email which reminded me of the books so i had to check it out, im so glad theres finally another book on its way. i will for sure be reading it. goodluck on the writing process
Thanks, Stephen.
Im not the oldest reader, 14 in fact, but ive read your series 4 times and its soo great! cant wait for “The Beast of Dublin” and “The Long Hunt” Good luck with the publishers
Thanks, Nolan. Fortunately, I don’t have deal with publishers any more. My wife and I have formed our own small company to publish the series, so we have full control now.
Love the books! And living in Oregon rocks, perfect climate for my tastes. Do you have an estimated finish date for book 4 yet? (Been waiting SOOO LONG)
Thanks, Mark. I don’t have any kind of precise date yet. The writing is coming along steadily, albeit–as always–somewhat more slowly than I’d like. This year still seems like a very safe prediction, but I still can’t be more precise than that.
Book 4 has a classic three act structure, and I’m currently in the midst of writing the climactic scene–a sea battle–of act two. The writing process itself can sometimes generate unexpected delays. I start a book with a rough outline of the story in my head, but not infrequently (as is currently happening with the battle scene I’m working on) when I’mi n the midst of a part of the story, I realize that my original plan doesn’t work, or doesn’t ring true, at all, which means I have to rethink where the story goes next.
I am so happy that this book is coming out, i have so many questions that have gone unanswered for so long. I like you said earlier am one of those that have been reading the saga since the first book. I just have to say that this is definitely the best series that i have ever read! So excited for this fourth book, hope to see it soon!
Thank you, Michael.
I have read all three books so far of the Strongbow saga and there are easily one of the best series I have ever read. For me it is right up there with Pendragon and the Inheritance series. I can’t wait for the fourth book to come out
Thank you, Seth. Book 4 is coming along quite well, now.
When will book 4 come out? I hope Halfdan sees Genevieve again!
I “discovered” your Strongbow series last Friday on Amazon and have read all three — just finished book 3 a few minutes ago. I love them and am anxiously awaiting book 4.
Hey man, I’ve been a fan of your saga here for a few years now and I just wanna say that you are a damn good writer in my opinion and I greatly look forward to your new book. Sad you have to move from the lone star state though, hope your new location is treatin you right.
Oregon is wonderful!
