I hear frequently from readers of the Strongbow Saga series wanting to know when the next installment of Halfdan’s story will come out. Those who discovered the story back when it was originally published by HarperCollins have been waiting especially long.
The continuation of the series was delayed for a number of years due to problems with the original publisher. I’ve discussed them in earlier posts on this site, so will not rehash them again.
And readers who have followed my posts here will be aware that this year has brought big changes in my personal life: I moved from Houston, Texas to Oregon, where my wife Jeanette and I have settled on a small farm, and are beginning a new life. The move and change have been very time consuming, and have temporarily further delayed my progress on book 4.
But I am back at work now, and Halfdan is back. The first chapter of book 4 is now posted on the “Free Previews” section of this website. It gives a first look at the new book, and will perhaps answer some questions–and no doubt raise others–about what will happen next.
Enjoy!
I just finished the first three books of the Strongbow series, which I had downloaded from Amazon.com. Your story has great authenticity in its details. As a lover of historical fiction, I am amazed at how much written information exists about “the Dark Ages”. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks, Eli.
I’m so happy that I came and checked out your website, it has turned my frown upside down! I started the Strongbow saga four years again and I’m so excited for the news of the 4th one! The Strongbow saga is in my top 5 favorites book series so I’ll be looking forward to the next two!
Thanks, Bryanna.
I have been with you since the original release and I am so thrilled to hear that the fourth is on its way! My only consern is that you mentioned a while back that the fourth was likely to be the last. I was looking forward to a ‘saga’ with such a good story and characters! I understand the hardships of life don’t always allow what we planned but…will the fourth really be the last?
Definitely not (assuming, of course, that I’m around to write more–no one is guaranteed that). The current Strongbow Saga series will be five books in all. There will also be the separate, stand-alone novel “The Beast of Dublin”–the next book I plan to finish after book 4–which in some ways is a prequel to the series, and features Hastein and other characters from the series. A partial prequel of it is currently available as a $1.00 KIndle e-book on Amazon. And hopefully I’ll get to a planned second series–which for lack of a better title at this time, we’ll call “The Return of Strongbow”–which will pick up Halfdan’s story some years after the end of The Strongbow Saga, and will carry him through some major actual historical events of the latter half of the 9th century, including a three year raid into the Mediterranean with Hastein and Bjorn Ironsides, and the conquest of much of England by the so-called Viking “Great Army,” led by Ivar the Boneless.
Just finished The Strongbow Saga, and left wanting more! Is there possibly an ETA for book 4?
As with others I check back here occasionally in hope of good news. And here it is! I can’t wait to have a chance to read the next book.
I’ve been reading your books The Strongbow Saga and I really enjoyed your work. But I keep on waiting for the fourth book that I have check the bookstore every week if the new one has arrive and that is so frustrating. I’ve cried with Halfdan and cheer on his triumph and along the way I get so hook that like an addict I crave for the next installment. Hopefully soon I can read the fourth book.
I check back here every so often to see if there are any updates on the continuation of Halfdan’s adventures, and I’m pleased to see that there’s definitely going to be a fourth book! I don’t know if I can stand to read the teaser chapter knowing that I can’t read the entire book yet, but I’m eagerly awaiting the day that The Long Hunt is published.
I’ll try to make the wait worth it.
Thank you. I got sucked into the series and have been waiting for book 4 since I finished book 3.
I am so there also. Can not wait to see what Halfdan is up to on his quest for revenge. Wow , it seems like so long ago that I flew threw the first 3 books. Thank you for continuing the Saga.
Sorry the wait has been so long.
You’re very welcome.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
